Until now, it has been incredibly challenging for a business to build a product with a stellar user experience in web3: wallets are hard for users to operate and secure, blockchain finality times can be slow, network gas fees fluctuate and spike, and a single product flow often takes several transactions on-chain.
We built Bastion to make web3 accessible, robust, secure, and compliant – so businesses building with Bastion can focus on developing products and experiences that are seamless, fast, and way more fun.
At Bastion, we don't believe that the future of web3 means every interaction needs to be on-chain. We're building a system that intelligently chooses the best route, whether on-chain or off-chain, to seamlessly power the most innovative web3 products and initiatives.
The Bastion platform: our comprehensive suite
Our core mission at Bastion is to remove the hurdles of building products in web3 today – we’ve had enough of complicated crypto wallets, siloed payment platforms, and limited interactions between brands and customers.
And so we built our platform offering:
- Custodial Wallet API: private key storage backed by secure hardware, accessible via a robust yet easy to use API that abstracts away complex interactions that may take multiple transactions on-chain
- Smart Transaction Routing: intelligent routing to ensure that transactions are processed efficiently between users: if a transaction does not need to go on-chain, Bastion will process the transaction off-chain so that interactions are instant and truly gas-free
- User Analytics & Insights: data collection and analysis to provide key metrics on everything users do on-chain (across all wallets and chains) and off-chain (such as authenticating for a token-gated event)
In sum, Bastion is a fresh take on the future of interactions powered by web3 infrastructure, with the seamless user-experience of web2. By reducing the burden of on-chain complexities for users, while providing off-chain value back to businesses, we aim to be the ultimate orchestration layer for traditional enterprise building in web3. Effortlessly coordinating multiple components to achieve results greater than the sum of their parts, businesses building with Bastion will no longer have to piecemeal or build multiple solutions in-house.

How Bastion came to be: our founders and team
The inspiration and foundation for Bastion originated during our seven years of working together in digital assets and security.
We first worked together to secure Docker, an infrastructure platform built to simplify running applications. Today, Docker has become a ubiquitous technology used across developer and cloud workloads, providing a seamless secure-by-default user experience.
Our first professional foray into digital assets was at Anchorage Digital, where we joined as founding and early engineers to secure billions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies for institutions. We worked together to build the hardware-backed private key storage platform that would eventually become the security technology underpinning the first federally-chartered crypto bank. We then shifted our focus to massive consumer-scale, where we architected and led wallet infrastructure and custody initiatives at Meta’s cryptocurrency wallet, Novi.
Prior to founding Bastion, we joined Andreessen Horowitz Crypto as Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Technology Officer, where we collaborated closely with many incredible founders and teams who were yearning for a solution just like Bastion to build their products.
Our founding team is a key differentiator for our product and, as we continue to expand Bastion, instilling our vision will be paramount. Our team brings a wealth of expertise from a breadth of experiences including leading engineering initiatives at top tier tech companies and overseeing successful compliance and regulatory initiatives both in web2 and web3.

Bastion raised a $25M seed round led by a16z crypto, with participation from Laser Digital Ventures, Packy McCormick’s Not Boring Capital, Tarun Chitra’s Robot Ventures, Sancus Ventures, Alchemy Ventures, Isos7 Venture Fund, Tom Brady’s NFT platform Autograph, Aptos Foundation, and individual investors Ryan Wyatt, Roham Gharegozlou, Dan Guido, and several other leaders in both web3 and web2.
